This year we, the Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County (SC) will commemorate National Senior Day with a luncheon featuring live performances and the awarding of Cobb seniors who have a long history of community volunteerism. If you know of an outstanding senior who is always volunteering in the community, please contact us so they can be considered for recognition for a future National Senior Day. The 2023 Annual Meeting of the Senior Citizens Council of Cobb was held on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the Cobb Wellness Center The meeting featured Senator Michael ‘Doc’ Rhett and Representative Sharon Cooper. Discussions focused on health items and services for Cobb seniors. Senator Rhett presented a Georgia Senate Proclamation to the Senior Citizen Council for having been operating for 50 years. “BE IT RESOLVED that the Georgia Senate recognize and commend the Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County upon the grand occasion of its 50th anniversary and extend sincere best wishes for continued success.”
National Senior Citizen Day was created in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan as a day to support, honor and show appreciation to all seniors and to recognize their life achievements. Each year, we, the Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County, recognizes it by awarding older adults who have volunteered continuously over the years to better the live of their fellow seniors in the county. The Cobb County Board of Commissions presented this year's Senior Citizen Lifetime achievement Proclamations. The Council wants to thank the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, Chairwoman Lisa Cupid, Commissioner Keli Gambrill, District 1, Commissioner Jerica Richardson, District 2 Commissioner JoAnn K. Birrell, District 3, Commissioner Monique Sheffield, District 4, The Cobb County Communications Department and the The Board of Commissioners and the staff of Cobb County Senior Services for their support of this event.
